The technique of Delid It consists of removing the IHS (the metal casing) from the processor to get the heatsink or cooling solution that we use to come into contact with the chip or chips directly and improve temperatures.
It is usually a delicate process that voids the processor’s warranty and is only recommended for expert users, however, for some time there have been companies that have been launching specific kits to be able to cool processors that have been “Delid” made, and Noctua has has joined this trend.
In fact, he has collaborated with the overclocker der8auer to launch a specific kit for AMD AM5 socket processors, which at the moment are the Ryzen 7000, with which they promise to reduce temperatures between 10 and 15ÂșC compared to the same processor with the IHS on.
The kit is compatible with practically all the coolers that Noctua has released since more than 18 years (2005), including the Noctua NH-D15 and variants, NH-D14, NHU12, etc. Basically, it is a system of separators that allow the heatsink to be anchored lower and make direct contact with the “dies” of the processor.
The price of this kit will be only 4.90 euros and it will be sold from the same month of June from the noctua website, in addition, they will offer free of charge in printables.com (Prusa’s 3D printing model service) so that anyone with a 3D printer can print the parts themselves.
