USM signs agreement to promote aerospace activity

The purpose of the collaborative agreement is to channel applied research activities that allow the development of solutions for the aerospace industry.

Claudia Márquez Rojas, USM Journalist. The Federico Santa María Technical University, through the Department of Aeronautics, signed an agreement within the framework of cooperation with the Center for Innovation and Advanced Design (CINNDA).

The signing of this agreement has the purpose of channeling applied research activities of USM units, departments and centers in the aerospace field. This contemplates both collaboration in teaching and training of human capital, as well as the execution of specific projects around the development of satellite technology, air and space platforms, ground control stations and instrumentation of hot air balloons and their operation and exploitation projects, favoring in them financing by third parties, both public and private.

For the director of the Department of Aeronautics of the USM, Anamaria Arpea, the importance of this agreement lies in the fact that it allows channeling the various collaborative activities offered by the aerospace field, “from teaching and applied research, to the provision of technological solutions for the development of space platforms, their systems and parts, as well as for the management of data from satellite detection”.

He also added that “various interdepartmental collaboration options are open for our university, around multidisciplinary projects with direct applications for the national aerospace industry.”

Meanwhile, for the executive director of CINNDA, Ricardo Grau, this agreement “represents a space for cutting-edge collaboration, where the experience of the Department of Aeronautics and the specialization and technological development of our center, with specific experience in systems for astrobiological research and satellite structures, provides a real opportunity to link academia and private companies, in pursuit of developing solutions for the aerospace industry and particularly in issues related to nanosatellites”.

What is CINNDA?

CINNDA is a center oriented to the design and implementation of R+D+i projects in areas related to advanced manufacturing, the internet of things and the circular economy. It uses design methodologies that use technology, innovation and research in the search for solutions, and implements training programs and technical and specialized assistance.
