Another of NVIDIA’s novelties at its inaugural Computex 2023 conference is its new platform for fleets of autonomous robotic vehicles NVIDIA Isaac AMRwhere AMR stands for “Autonomous Mobile Robot”. It will be based on the platform ISAAC NOVA Orin by NVIDIA which will hit the market in July this year with its Jetson AGX Orin board equipped with ARM Cortex-A78AE cores and Ampere GPUs.
This platform allows the creators of this type of robots to integrate advanced systems for mapping and recognition of the environment, movement capabilities and autonomous behavior, as well as simulation platforms for training and testing in virtual environments before putting them into operation in the real world.
For example, NVIDIA Isaac Sim is a simulator for robotic fleet vehicles that is based on NVIDIA Omniverse to create simulations of real environments with physics and perception of the environment to be able to test the robots beforehand without having to do it in a real environment, with the risks and problems that this could entail.
The applications of this type of fleet of autonomous robots are varied, but systems like the ones Amazon has to automatically manage certain parts of the shipping process in its warehouses may come to mind.
