The Foreign Minister of Vietnam receives the Director General of the WTO

Welcoming the visit of the Director-General of the WTO to Vietnam, the Vietnamese Foreign Minister expressed his belief that the visit contributes to strengthening the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the WTO.

Vietnam’s constant policy is to actively and proactively integrate into the world, support an open, transparent, fair and rules-based multilateral trading system, with the WTO at the core, he said.

He highly appreciated the leadership role of the Director-General in shaping the political priorities of the WTO in order to enhance the organization’s role in the multilateral trading system, strengthen its links with other international organizations and promote the reform process. of the WTO and the recent successful holding of the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference in June 2022.

At the meeting, for her part, the WTO director-general praised Vietnam’s active role in the WTO, including its participation in important rounds of negotiations and its contribution to reforming and improving the efficiency of the WTO.

Okonjo-Iweala also shared some of the WTO cooperation priorities in the coming times, such as promoting WTO reform, promptly restoring the full functioning of the dispute settlement mechanism, and expanding the separate foreign agenda. traditional economic and trade issues, especially e-commerce and investment facilitation, strengthening coordination between the WTO and other international organizations to join efforts in responding to global problems such as pandemics, climate change, security food, etc.

The WTO Director-General also expressed her hope that Vietnam will actively contribute to these processes, ratify the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement soon, and coordinate for the success of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference.
