Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan leads the official provisional results of the second round of the country’s presidential elections with 53.4 percent in favor, the Supreme Electoral Council has announced.

The country’s highest electoral authority has so far validated 75.4 percent of the votes and has asked the population for patience until the final results are published.

The official Turkish news agency Anadolu, for example, awards Erdogan victory with 96 percent of his own count. The president would have obtained 52.3 percent of the votes against 47.7 percent of his rival, the leader of the Republican People’s Party, Kemal Kiliçdaroglu.

International leaders such as the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, or the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Zani, have already congratulated Erdogan.
