Rambus will start production of 24 Gbps GDDR6 memories by the end of the year

RAMBUS is preparing to start manufacturing its chips 24 Gbps GDDR6 memory by the end of the year 2023, possibly leading to the launch of new graphics cards with this faster memory during the first months of 2024.

It would not be the first time that AMD or NVIDIA have released updated versions of their graphics cards with faster memories and higher speeds. In this generation we have not yet seen models like the RTX 4080 Ti or the RTX 4090 Ti, nor “SUPER” variants that existed a couple of generations ago. Nor would it be strange if AMD planned a launch of 7×50 variants such as a future RX 7950 XT/XTX with these memories.

Currently, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 uses 24GB of GDDR6X memory at 21Gbps, while the Radeon RX 7900 XTX runs at 20Gbps with the same amount of memory, but GDDR6. If both companies continue with the same type of memory, it would be logical to think that it is AMD who makes the leap to 24 Gbps GDDR6 and NVIDIA focuses on Micron GDDR6X memories that exceed the 21 Gbps that they now reach.

In any case, we will have to wait for the arrival of the new GPU models from both companies to see which way they go.
