Oleksiy Danilovno, one of the most important security officials in Ukraine, said this Saturday in an interview with the BBC that they are prepared to launch the counteroffensive against the Russian troops.
Danilov has not mentioned a specific date, but has assured that an assault to retake the territory from the occupying forces of President Vladimir Putin could begin “tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or within a week.”
He has warned that the Ukrainian government “has no right to make a mistake” in the decision because it is a “historic opportunity” that “we cannot miss.”
During the interview, he also confirmed that some of Wagner’s mercenary forces were withdrawing from the city of Bakhmut, the site of the bloodiest battle of the war so far, but added that they were “regrouping in three other places” and “It doesn’t mean they will stop fighting us.”
Danilov has also stated that he is “absolutely calm” with the fact that Russia transfers nuclear weapons to Belarus: “For us it is not any kind of news.”
His interview with the BBC had to be interrupted by a telephone message from the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, to summon him to a meeting to discuss the counteroffensive.
