May 23. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, stated this Tuesday during a meeting with his cabinet on the Belarusian health system that he is not going to die in the face of constant speculation about his state of health since May 9.
“If someone thinks I’m going to die, calm down. That’s nothing more than idle discussions on instant messaging channels and Telegram. Did they say I had an adenovirus? An adenovirus. That’s nothing,” he said, according to what he has collected the BelTA news agency.
In this sense, Lukashenko recalled that he did not have time to be treated due to his constant travels, so the symptoms accumulated. “I am not going to die. They will suffer my presence for a long time”, he has sentenced himself.
Speculation about his health arose after he canceled his attendance at the Flag Day celebrations on May 14. After that, the former Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tijanovskaya stated that the Belarusian opposition should be prepared for “any scenario”.
In an attempt to dispel the rumors, the Belarusian president was seen last week at the central command of the Air Defense Forces, from where he appeared before the cameras with a bandage on his hand, still visibly pale.
Before that, Lukashenko had not appeared in public since the Victory Day events held in Moscow on May 9 to commemorate the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
During the Moscow act he seemed disoriented and even withdrew before the completion of the ceremony. Since then, public television had not broadcast current images of the president, who is currently 68 years old.
