New York () — OpenAI is making it even easier to access ChatGPT.
Open AI announced Thursday the launch of a free ChatGPT application for iOS users in the United States, with plans to launch soon in other countries.
The announcement comes six months after OpenAI first released ChatGPT to the public. The release quickly sparked a new artificial intelligence (AI) arms race in the tech industry to develop and deploy tools that can generate text and images in response to user input.
It also comes the same week that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman testified before Congress on the risks that AI can pose to society, describing the current boom in technology as a potential “printing moment” but one that required safeguards.
The new ChatGPT app has the same capabilities as the web version of the viral chatbot tool and could help boost its popularity. With the app, users will also be able to send voice messages through their phone’s microphone, instead of just typing them. Users can also sync their history between devices.
Those who pay US$20 a month to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus will get additional benefits in the app, including access to the GPT-4 capabilitiesthe next generation version of the technology behind the tool.
OpenAI plans to release an Android version next, according to the CTO of the companyLook Murati.
