Kioxia Introduces BG6 SSDs in M.2 2230 Form Factor with Up to 6,000 MB/s Read



The manufacturer specialized in storage, Kioxia, has presented a new BG6 series PCI Express 4.0 compliant SSD drive. These Kioxia BG6 SSDs will carry the performance and a more affordable price to PC users who request it. These new SSDs include sixth generation BiCS FLASH 3D memory from Kioxia, with a performance of 1.7 times that of its predecessor. Also, they come in a small form factor M.2 2230 Ideal for smaller PCs or portable devices, though it’s also available in the M.2 2280 standard.

This series is compatible with PCI Express 4.0, reaching up to 6,000 MB/s read and 5,300 MB/s sequential write, thanks to its compatibility with a 4-lane interface. It is available in various capacities, from 256 GB up to 2TB, going through all the usual 512 GB and 1 TB capacities in between. This report, which will have a competitive price, is supports Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology to use part of the host memory as its own, offering great performance on drives without DRAM.

Among its characteristics we find support for NVMe 1.4c and the System Management Bus (SMBus) command which allows for much tighter thermal management. It also has notification signal support when there is power loss to protect the unit from unexpected or forced shutdowns. This unit also offers other advantages such as end-to-end data protection to ensure their safety.

Kioxia is expected to start distributing these new SSD drives in the second half of 2023.
