Frontier remains the most powerful supercomputer and the only one capable of developing exaFLOPS

Some time ago we were talking about Frontiera supercomputer that was made with the first position of the list of the 500 most powerful supercomputers in the worldand for another year, this team is still the most powerful in the world due to two factors.

The first of these is that no one has succeeded in creating a more powerful supercomputer, while the second is that Frontier itself has outdone itself in performance, so your HPL performance has passed 1.02 exaFLOPS in November 2022 to 1,194 exaFLOPS in May 2022an incredible 17 percent improvement which does not seem to have been the result of a hardware change, but of software optimization.

Thus, the supercomputer continues to have the same 8.7 million AMD cores that it already boasted at its launchand as we already counted at that time, the theoretical design of the supercomputer should allow a maximum performance of 2 exaFLOPS, so that there is still a lot of work ahead of the Frontier to reach its final form.

For his part, the mixed precision HLP-MxP benchmark has returned a result of 9.95 exaFLOPS, a result also higher than the original 7.94 exaFLOPS.
