The Government of Malawi has announced the opening of an investigation into the fire registered on Saturday in a building in the capital, Lilongwe, which caused the destruction of offices of various ministries, including some linked to the Justice portfolio.
The spokesman for the Malawi Executive, Moses Kunyuku, has indicated that the fire destroyed two floors of the Tikwere House and has stressed that “the causes are unknown for now”, according to a statement published by the Government through its official page on the Twitter social network.
“The population is informed that the affected floors of the building house government offices, including some from the Ministry of Lands, the Office of the President and the Cabinet, and the Department of Community Services of the Ministry of Justice,” he specified.
In this sense, he has stressed that the information related to land “is intact, since it has a digital copy”, for which he has stressed that “the nation should not be concerned about any loss of information for malign reasons.”
“The nation is guaranteed that the government will supervise that the investigation is carried out and completed quickly and that the conclusions are provided to the public,” said Kunyuku, who is also the African country’s information minister.
