May 22. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The UK Intelligence services pointed out on Monday that the Russian authorities would be working to create “a new elite aviation group” to carry out air operations within the framework of the invasion of Ukraine.

“Russia is most likely creating a new elite attack aviation group called ‘Shtorm’ to operate in Ukraine,” they said, before specifying that “the unit probably consists of at least one squadron of Su-24 Fencer bombers and Su -24 Fullback and a squadron of attack helicopters”.

Thus, they have maintained that “the mix of aircraft types suggests that the group would have a main role in ground attack missions,” according to a statement published by the British Ministry of Defense through its official account on the social network Twitter.

“Credible reports in the Russian media suggest that the Russian Defense Ministry is trying to attract highly skilled and motivated pilots by offering large financial incentives and opening up recruitment to retired aviators,” they explained.

Finally, they have stressed that “the creation of this group underlines that Russia considers that its regular squadrons within the Air Force have been below those required in its main function of carrying out bombing attacks against the Ukrainian lines.”
