The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has called on the head of the Sudanese Armed Forces and head of state, Abdelfatá al Burhan, to show “flexibility and leadership” in the negotiations opened in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to achieve something on fire .
Blinken has defended the need to “achieve a short-term ceasefire to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and the restoration of essential services,” said a State Department spokesman, Matthew Miller.
The head of US Diplomacy has asked to go “step by step” in the process and has once again condemned the violence on both sides, both the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), locked in a crude confrontation for weeks.
“An agreement in Jeddah would allow the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid and essential services to the Sudanese people. The United States remains supportive of the Sudanese people’s democratic aspirations for civilian rule in a stable and democratic Sudan,” he stressed.
This same Saturday an attack against the Qatari Embassy in Khartoum was reported, which caused only material damage, since all the personnel had previously been evacuated, according to official sources quoted by the newspaper ‘Sudan Ajbar’.
