The Government of Russia has warned its citizens that the “discriminatory attitudes” of the Moldovan authorities towards people of Russian nationality have become “more frequent” in recent times.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement, people with Russian passports “are often subject to a humiliating additional control procedure” upon arrival at Chisinau airport.
Thus, Moscow has denounced that these “strenuous controls” can last up to ten hours without access to water, food or the possibility of communicating with the outside world, so that later, in many cases, they are denied access to the country.
In addition, the Russian authorities have denounced that these controls are often carried out with the presence of Moldovan and European Union border agents, who in some cases record this “inappropriate treatment” of Russian citizens and “publish videos on the Internet”.
“Unfortunately, the possibility of providing consular support from the Russian Embassy in Chisinau in such situations is seriously limited, since the Moldovan authorities often do not provide their employees with access to Russian citizens,” Moscow lamented.
Thus, the Russian Foreign Ministry has “strongly” recommended that Russian citizens take into account the “risks” they may face if they decide to travel to Moldovan territory.
Moldova, a neighboring country of Ukraine and seriously affected by the war unleashed by Russia in Eastern Europe, is one of the European nations that, along with Poland or the Baltic countries, has most confronted Moscow since February 2022.
