Sonos will stop supporting the ‘On this device’ feature for streaming locally saved audio on Android

sonos has reported that from May 23 will stop supporting the ‘On this device’ feature in apps S1 and S2with which audio stored locally on Android devices can be transmitted so that it can be played by the brand’s speakers.

The company that develops audio products has the ‘On this device’ feature for allow sending locally saved audio files on Android devices to speakers and, in this way, being able to play music or other content without having to be stored on a music platform in the cloud.

However, Sonos has announced that as of next tuesday may 23the applications S1 and S2, from which audio devices are controlled and configured will no longer be supported with this feature.

As Sonos has explained in a statement on its website, This is because, as the developers release newer and updated versions of mobile operating systems“can change the way information is shared between devices”. As a consequence, updates to newer versions of the Android operating system they will no longer be compatible with this function.

However, from Sonos they have stated that they know that local audio files “are important” for listeners. Therefore, it has reminded users that although the ‘On this device’ function is not available, there are other options to enjoy the downloaded audio files.

In this sense, the devices of the American company have bluetooth connectivity, so it can be used for data transmission. Also recommends upload such files to a NAS drivethat is, a storage unit connected to the network in which the data can be continuously available.

Likewise, another of the options that Sonos proposes is to use a music service, given that some allow users to upload their own music files in a cloud storage service and through this channel, the transmission could be sent to the speakers.

Finally, the company recalls that in devices that have double line input, as is the case with the Sonos Play 5, Connect Am, Era 100 or Era 300, you can stream the music directly with just one input connection.
