The new Tesla Roadster is delayed again: the production of the expected electric supercar moves to 2024

The new Tesla Roadster is making itself begging. The second generation of electric supercar of the American company is still in full development stage, so it would begin to be produced next year, four years later than originally planned.

The news was released this Tuesday by Elon Musk himself at a meeting with shareholders. According to the businessman, Tesla must complete the design and engineering tasks of the Roadster, so “hopefully” we could see its arrival on the production line in 2024.

Introduced in 2017, and delayed time and time again

The new generation of the Tesla Roadster was presented without prior notice at the Tesla Semi event in 2017. The announcement not only came with that surprise componentbut also, as Tesla is used to, with a series of promises that could hardly go unnoticed.

“It will be the fastest production car ever made. Period”, Musk stated about this car that was intended to demonstrate an important evolutionary leap in relation to the original Roadster that laid the foundations for Tesla (and like the one that the new owner of Twitter decided to send into space).

The spec sheet was wildly ambitious. It promised to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds (later updated to 2.1 seconds), reach a top speed of 400 kilometers per hour and a range of 1,000 kilometers. Everything, of course, on paper.

The car should have started production in 2020, but in 2021 Musk announced a delay. That essential stage for its arrival to customers, who could already book it online, would end up being delayed until 2022. Time passed, and between delays and delays we have other news.

As we say, the production of the new model should start in 2023. In addition, the businessman spoke about other company products. As for the Cybertruck electric pick-up (also delayed) he said he expects deliveries to start this year.

There was also no lack of comments about his movements on Twitter. Let’s remember that some shareholders were not entirely happy with the time that Musk was dedicating to the social network. “I had to do major open heart surgery on Twitter to ensure the survival of the company,” he said.
