The government People’s Power Party (PPP) has demanded this Tuesday that the former South Korean opposition deputy Kim Nam Kuk be permanently disqualified from holding any public office due to his involvement in an alleged scandal surrounding the irregular acquisition of cryptocurrencies.
“Former deputy Kim should leave politics forever and not just temporarily,” said the general secretary of the PPP, Lee Chul Gyu, who has urged his formation, the Democratic Party (PD) to “expel” him and prevent his return to politics
They have also accused him of leaving the main opposition party to “evade responsibility” after it came to light that he has a large number of cryptocurrencies of questionable origin, according to the PPP.
The case drew criticism over the possibility that the deputy had abused his power to gain profit in a case that fell into the hands of the South Korean Intelligence Financial Services Commission, which classified his transactions as suspicious.
The accusations center on the idea that the then deputy would have had an advantage when it came to acquiring these cryptocurrencies after attending two meetings of the Parliamentary Judicial Commission.
“We have asked him to cooperate by providing data, but we have not received a response from him,” said PD deputy Kim Han Kyu.
