Xbox Series hits 2 million units sold in the UK twelve weeks ahead of Nintendo Switch

Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have managed to sell a combined 2 million units in the UK, according to information provided by market analysis company GfK. The Microsoft console reaches this achievement after 128 weeks on the market during which it has generated 696 million pounds sterling (800 million euros). It took Xbox Series thirteen months (56 weeks) to sell its first million units in the country.

With this information in hand, Xbox Series becomes the eighth fastest selling home console ever in the UK, just ahead of Nintendo Switch, which took 140 weeks to hit 2 million units. The data is surprising if we take into account the success that the Nintendo console has had worldwide. However, the explanation seems simple. During the first months Nintendo Switch did not convince the British, but over time it earned their trust. So much so that in 2020, 2021 and 2022 it was the best-selling console in the country ahead of PlayStation and Xbox.

Regarding the other Xbox consoles, Xbox One remains the fastest selling in the UK, with two million units shipped after 104 weeks, while Xbox 360 took 110 weeks. The Xbox Series has taken a few more weeks than its predecessors, but keep in mind that the console has faced supply issues both in the UK and in other territories. The most affected model has been Xbox Series X. As for the original Xbox, it took 162 weeks to reach 2 million.

Compared to the PlayStation 5, Sony’s latest console is the fourth fastest it has taken to reach 2 million units sold in the UK. 98 weeks (22 months) were enough. Ahead of them are three of the best-selling desktop consoles in history: PS4, PS2 and Nintendo Wii, which managed to sell 2 million units in 75, 60 and 57 weeks, respectively.
