The Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, has “categorically” rejected the accusations of interference in the elections this Sunday in Turkey launched by the country’s opposition.
Peskov has assured that Russia will respect the will of the “Turkish people” in response to the statements by the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and main opposition leader, Kemal Kiliçdaroglu, as published by the Russian agency Interfax this Saturday.
“The opposition leader said he had evidence — of Russian interference –. He has not presented it yet. We are sure that he will not be able to do so because they do not exist,” Peskov said.
Kiliçdaroglu accused “Russian friends” of interfering in the Turkish electoral process, and threatened to end the “friendship” between the two countries if Russia “doesn’t keep its hands off the state of Turkey.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Kiliçdaroglu “should be ashamed” for making these accusations against Russia.
