Dutton and Wrenlee are on the rise, but they’re a long way from Liam and Olivia, the most popular baby names in America last year.
The US Social Security Administration released the annual list on Friday. The agency tracks baby names in each state based on applications for Social Security cards, with names dating back to 1880.
Liam ranks first for the sixth year in a row. While Olivia has been at the top of the list since she dethroned Emma four years ago. Emma ranks second.
In third place for girls’ names is Charlotte, followed by Amelia, Sophia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Evelyn and Luna. As for children, Liam is followed by Noah, Oliver, James, Elijah, William, Henry, Lucas, Benjamin and Theodore.
Luna is the only new name in the top 10. Harper was left out.
The agency has compiled the list since 1997, often revealing the impact pop culture has on trending names. The hit “Yellowstone” certainly influenced parents. The neowestern series starring Kevin Costner debuted in 2018 and, since then, his characters have been present in baby names.
Dutton moved up the Social Security list to No. 835, a difference of 986 places from the previous year. It is the surname of the fictional family of the series, of which Costner’s character John Dutton is a part. Dutton is the fastest rising name in the ranks of Social Security records.
Kayce is on the rise for the show’s character Kayce John Dutton, ranking 587th in popular names, up from 1,077th the previous year. Luke Grimes is the actor who plays Kayce.
Rip, also from “Yellowstone,” has garnered some attention in names, but he didn’t make Social Security’s list of the top 1,000.
