May 13. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The floods unleashed at the beginning of the month in the north, south and west of Rwanda have already left 135 dead and more than 20,000 homeless in the affected areas, according to the latest balance released this Saturday by the Minister of Emergency Management of Rwanda (MINEMA), Marie-Solange Kayisire, and collected this Saturday by the newspaper ‘The New Times’.

The rains have also left a total of 110 injured, of whom 13 are still hospitalized, and a total of 5,963 homes destroyed by floods and landslides.

The country’s president, Paul Kagame, visited the most affected areas this past Friday and promised the urgent distribution of the emergency aid that the African country has at its disposal.

The Ministry has distributed 426 tons of food support as it continues to work with the necessary parties to help households affected by the disaster, amid warnings of new rains that will continue throughout the month of May. In the capital, Kigali, according to the authorities, about 6,000 families urgently need to move from areas that put their lives at risk.
