The Gaza electricity company warns that the supply could end on Sunday in the middle of the Israeli campaign

May 13. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Gaza Electricity Distribution Company (GEDCO), the only electricity distributor in the Palestinian enclave, has warned this Saturday that the supply could end next Sunday, with no end in sight to the Israeli bombing campaign as part of his last confrontation with Islamic Jihad.

In a statement collected by the Israeli newspaper ‘Haaretz’, GEDCO reiterates, as it does every time there is a conflict, that the absence of electricity generated in the enclave will imply total dependence on the lines coming from Israel; 120 megawatts insufficient to meet the needs of the population.

Moreover, GEDCO recalls that, in addition to the consequent cessation of supply to homes in Gaza, facilities such as water treatment plants could also end up seeing their activities suspended.

Faced with this situation, the Gazan population would be forced to resort to the use of private generators, powered by a fuel whose price has risen substantially in recent years.

The clashes between Israel and Islamic Jihad, which began on Tuesday, have left at least 33 Palestinians dead and 147 wounded in five days, as well as two dead and four wounded on Israeli soil, according to medical sources from Hamas and Tel Aviv, respectively.
