“The Ministry of National Defense will send to the Bank of Mexico the proposal for the design of the motif that will be contained on the reverse of the coin,” it was reported in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF).
If Sedena does not submit a design proposal within the following 30 calendar days, Banxico will decide on the design of the new currency.
What will the design of the new coin be like?
Like coins previously put into circulation, it will be dodecagonal in shape and 30 millimeters in diameter.
The coin will be bimetallic: the central part will be made of copper, nickel and zinc while the ring will be made of copper, aluminum and nickel.
The Casa de Moneda de México will make the technical adjustments and will manufacture the piece.
Are the 20-peso bills going to disappear?
Banxico launched the last 20-peso bill in September 2021 in representation of the consummation of the historical process of the Independence of Mexico.
Since then, the central bank announced that it began the process of withdrawing these bills so that in the future there will only be coins. This does not mean that the tickets lose their value.
