The President of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Saturday that the Government will finance half the cost of Interrail travel with the aim of allowing thousands of young people to tour Europe this summer. Sánchez has also revealed another series of discounts for trips around Spain that young people between the ages of 18 and 30 can benefit from.
“We are going to have a European Interrail and we are going to have a Spanish Interrail”, declared Sánchez, “so that young people get to know each and every one of the municipalities and regions of their country”. The President has defended the Government’s commitment “to encourage young people to get to know their country, promote rural tourism, cultural heritage and our immense historical heritage.”
The measures announced by Sánchez are aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 30 and can be enjoyed between June 15 and September 15. In addition to the 50 percent discount on Interrail tickets, young people will be able to access a 90 percent discount on trains and buses that depend on the State for trips in Spain, as well as a 50 percent discount on High Speed trains. .
The socialist president made this announcement during his participation in the presentation of the PSOE candidacies in Murcia, together with the general secretary of the party in Murcia and candidate for the regional presidency, Pepe Vélez. The measure, Sánchez has advanced, will be approved on Tuesday at the next Council of Ministers.
“Many young people know Europe more than their own country”, declared the socialist president, who has defended that Spain is the second most visited country in the world, but still has corners unknown to many Spaniards. “We are going to help our young people get to know Spain better by traveling through its interior this summer”, declared the president.
The President of the Government has framed this decision as one more step in the series of measures aimed at improving the situation of young people in Spain, such as raising the minimum wage or reforms in terms of work, education, universities and housing. “This government is committed to the younger generations of our country, especially after the pandemic,” said Sánchez. “They deserve it”.
But Sánchez has also pointed to the economic impact. The Government ensures that these subsidies are aimed at helping young people, as well as the tourism and cultural sectors, with the promotion of historical and cultural heritage, as well as the development of rural Spain.
The president of the government, fully involved in the electoral pre-campaign, plans to attend a second act this Saturday, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, together with the mayoral candidate and former minister Carolina Darias. On Sunday, he will close the week with a new intervention in Tenerife.
