The UN Committee against Enforced Disappearances accused Mexico of not acting diligently in cases of enforced disappearances. He affirmed that the Mexican State failed to comply with its obligation to carry out an investigation into the disappearance of Yonathan Isaac Mendoza Berrospe in 2013.
It’s about a unpublished opinion issued by the UN Committee against Enforced Disappearancesfollowing a case in which he affirms that Mexico did not comply with its obligation to investigate the disappearance of a minor by men dressed as police officers.
The entity determined that, according to the evidence, it was shown that the disappearance of the young Yonathan Isaac Mendoza Berrospe, in 2013, occurred at a time when security operations were being carried out in the state of Veracruz. The Committee urges the Mexican State to end impunity in cases of forced disappearances.
“There has been no proper investigation”
“He Committee of Rights Humans of nations united is he maximum organ of surveillance of this terrible freak that is the disappearance forced. Mexico ha signed that convention and HE ha engaged to guarantee that nobody be missing, and in case of do it, he State this obliged to investigate these facts. In this sense, us we have insisted in that Mexico has a serious problem of disappearances. Talk later the rest of 125,000 people approximately disappeared”, explains Juan Carlos Gutiérrez Contreras, coordinator of I(dh)easa Mexican organization specialized in litigating cases of serious human rights violations.
“AND it that we have outstanding with this case is that No was a investigation proper, diligent, that would allow that the mother of jonathan were to the so much of which passed with his son, that was uploaded to a patrol police and that from that moment No HE knows nothing. No ha there have been a investigation, says he committee, diligent and effective, as happens in he 99% of the cases in this country, where the disappearances and the violations serious to rights humans No are investigated in generally,” he stresses.
“Accept the decision”
What impact can this opinion of the United Nations have for the Mexican State? “It first that has that do is accept the decision and believe that that I would be a message positive. So, for honor that message as a democracy consolidated, Mexico has that accept that HE goes to engage to achieve with that determination. But to the same time the decision order obviously that HE I searched to Jonathan, and all the authorities of the prosecution General and the prosecution of veracruz should look for to Yonathan”, concludes Gutiérrez Contreras.
Years after the disappearance of the young Yonathan Isaac, his mother continues to search for him and denounces harassment and indifference from the authorities. She last saw her son in December 2013.
