Turkish Army kills PKK leader in northern Iraq

The Turkish Armed Forces reported on Thursday the death of a leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Ankara considers a terrorist organization, in an operation carried out in northern Iraq.

Thus, the Army has identified the alleged leader of the group as Ahmet Gumus, whom they have described as one of the leaders of the organization, according to information from the TRT Haber television channel.

The authorities consider that Gumus planned and carried out “numerous attacks against the Turkish security forces” and have indicated that he would have participated in attacks against police stations in Turkish territory.

The Turkish Army has recently intensified its operations against the PKK -which it considers a terrorist group- both in the southeast of the country and in northern Iraq, both with a Kurdish majority, since the ceasefire between the government was broken. and the armed group in July 2015.
