Apple launched as a novelty a couple of years ago the Find My network to locate important objectsthrough your new device AirTag. This network, whose location system it is very precise, has been used by stalkers for malicious purposes. This location system, developed by Apple, has been imitated by Android to offer a series of useful services to its users, but that others also have used with bad intentions. To avoid this type of action, Apple and Google come together to formalize a standard in the industry against unwanted Bluetooth sniffing.
This initial draft has received support from other companies such as Samsung, Tile, Chipolo, eufy Security and Pebblebee, including the specifications and best practices for manufacturers who decide to include this service on their devices. Apple has made several updates to its AirTag devices to determine if someone was illegally tracking you, something that intend to eliminate with this new specification.
The draft will be available for 3 months, during which time are open to feedback for system improvement and that will be subsequently evaluated to include or not in the final version of this specification scheduled for the end of this 2023.
