The future of urban mobility is electric. At least this is what the change in trend that is taking place in the old continent suggests. The European Union has defined through the Green Pact the ban on the registration of cars with combustion engine from 2035 (although synthetic fuels will not be covered initially).
Manufacturers, for their part, are taking increasingly important steps towards the electrification of their ranges. These movements are encouraging if we think of more sustainable ways of moving. Despite the optimism surrounding this paradigm shift, some challenges still remain. One of them is the price: electric cars are generally expensive.

An electric car for less than 2,000 euros
When we think of ultra-cheap electric cars, options such as the Citroen Amiwhich can be bought for about 8,000 eurosor the Renault Twizy E-Tech, which exceeds the barrier of 12,000 euros, in both cases prices without aid. In the international market, however, there are much cheaper alternatives.
The Chang Li CL-JP from the Chinese manufacturer Changzhou Xili Vehicle is one of them. It is an electric vehicle that, due to its specifications, shares a category with golf caddies: it is small, versatile, economical, weighs less than 1,400 kg and cannot exceed a speed of 40 km/h. The most curious thing is that it can be purchased through Alibaba.
We are facing a proposal of 2.5 meters long, 1.5 wide and 1.8 high with a polymer exterior. There are two doors, but inside the car they can travel up to four passengers at a maximum speed of 30 km/h. It has disc brakes, aluminum wheels and headlights with different levels of lighting and turn signals.
The Chang Li CL-JP can be charged by plugging the included cable directly into any standard socket. A 100% charge, they promise, can take between 7 and 10 hours to complete. This will be enough to obtain a range that will oscillate between 40 and 100 kilometers.
As we mentioned above, the purchase process can be carried out entirely online. The car is available in the Alibaba business page. For all those who wish to buy between one and nine units, the price is €1,424.77although those who buy more than 10 units, they assure, will find a discount.
According to the manufacturer, “it may be the cheapest electric car in the world.” This says that it will be shipped directly to the buyer’s address, just like any other product purchased from an e-commerce store. This will be presented in a cardboard and foam packaging with a metal frame.
It should be noted that, at least in Spanish territory, electric cars need to be approved to move on public roads. Changzhou does not provide details on this point, so if you do not comply with the traffic regulationsthe Chang Li CL-JP should be used within “neighborhoods” or even in private circulation areas.
