UN slams Taliban 'unacceptable' ban on female humanitarian work

May 2. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, has charged against the labor discrimination imposed by the Afghan Taliban on women in the field of humanitarian aid and has warned that it even puts lives in danger.

“I will be frank: we will never remain silent in the face of these unprecedented and systematic attacks against the rights of women and girls. We will always protest if millions of women and girls are silenced and made invisible,” Guterres said from Doha after meeting with special envoys for Afghanistan.

These envoys, including the UN special envoy for Afghanistan, Roza Otunbayeva, have agreed on the importance of “understanding each other’s concerns and limitations” and “agree on the need to collaborate.”

Thus they have reached an agreement on “the need for a compromise strategy that allows the stabilization of Afghanistan, but also addresses the most important concerns.” However, he has not given the slightest indication that the Afghan fundamentalist regime will be formally recognized.
