The US confirms the death of an ex-marine in Bakhmut

The United States Department of State has confirmed this Monday the death of a former marine, who fell in combat last week on the outskirts of Bakhmut, one of the main scenes of this war, which has been going on for more than fourteen months.

However, Washington has avoided revealing the identity of the victim. “We are in contact with the family and will provide all possible consular assistance. Out of respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time, we have nothing more to add,” a State Department spokesperson said.

It would be Cooper ‘Harris’ Andrews, 26, from Cleveland, Ohio, who would have died after being hit by a mortar, according to what his family told , on April 19 when he was covering one of the routes that Ukrainian forces use to resupply.

According to his social networks, Andrews, whose body has not yet been recovered, worked for a group known as the Resistance Committee. He left Cleveland in November and joined the Foreign Legion in Ukraine, a group of foreign fighters assisting the Ukrainian military.

Despite the fact that his contract with the Ukrainian Army ended in March, he decided to stay, according to his family.
