30 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
At least eleven people have died, including two children, and another four have been hospitalized in the Indian state of Punjab, in the northwest of the country, due to a gas leak in a factory.
The fatalities have been identified as five women and six men, and the deceased children were ten and 13 years old, as reported by the Police of the town of Ludhiana, where the tragedy occurred, in a statement collected by the Indian chain NDTV.
A team of 50 members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is working in the place, which is currently cordoned off, while the Police evacuate the residents of the densely populated area.
The deputy commissioner of Ludhiana, Surabhi Malik, estimates that the leak could have occurred as a result of a combination of some chemical agent from the factory and the methane accumulated in the sewers that pass through the building, but has asked for patience until the investigation is complete. .
