30 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The polling stations in Uzbekistan have opened this Sunday at 08:00 (local time) for its citizens to decide whether or not to approve the new draft Constitution, as reported by the local agency UZA.
The project was approved by both chambers of the country on March 15 and proposes to include 27 articles in the current version of the constitution.
In this new Constitution, the State is expected to assume new commitments to reduce poverty, guarantee employment and protect workers from unemployment.
One of the most commented amendments is the one that would extend the presidential term from five to seven years.
Likewise, the changes will limit the president’s permanence in office to two consecutive terms, so that, when the new constitution is adopted, the current president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will have the right to run again.
