Games at Epic Games
Epic Games is one of the video game ecosystems that have acquired the most relevance in recent years, not only for launching famous games like Fortnite or for being one of the creators of the powerful video game creation engine Unreal Enginebut also because of the aggressive tactics of give away games every week in order to attract people. This has meant that they have sometimes come to offer games completely free of charge, such as GTA V, the Tomb Raider saga or, more recently, important titles such as Death Stranding.
But even with a large number of users and relevancethe platform is not therefore the most complete in terms of functionalitieshaving a simple interface that only services a game library and a store, which makes it miss more advanced features and worthy of a gaming platform of its size such as the official option to import games that we already have downloaded in our system or that we have copied from another hard drive.
Importing games then may seem impossible, but there is a method to be able to trick the program while it is downloading a game in order to avoid having to download the entire game and take advantage of the files that we already have on our computer, although it should be noted that the method is somewhat hard to do and what has to be done individually for each gameso if we have a fairly fast internet, we may be interested in doing it only with the heavy games, since it will be faster to re-download the entire games with a couple of Gigs or less of download.
Steps to follow to import games into Epic Games.
If we want to import a game into Epic Games we will have to follow the Next steps:
- Open Epic Games. In addition to log in with an account that has purchased the games we want to add. The following steps we will have to do separately for each game that we want to add.
- Go to the library and start downloading the game which we already have downloaded. Additionally, we will have to note the folder where we started downloading the game, we will need it later.
- Pause the download of the game when it has a small percentage downloaded. For most games, a 3% either 400MB, whatever before. You have to pay attention to pause the download, if we cancel it will not work.
- Close Epic Games completely, this implies close the program and then right click on the Epic Games launcher icon on the taskbar and there in go out. Important go out of the program, but do not log out.
- Go to the folder where we were downloading the game. There we will have to look for a folder called “.egstore”. Sometimes it may not appear, but in case it does we will have to eliminate it.
- Copy the game files to the folder in which we had started the installation.
- Finally we will have to enter epic games and click on the game so that resume installation with the files already copied to your folder.
The game should be recognized within Epic Games, although you may need to download some additional files or an update. If it doesn’t work we can try again letting it download some morealthough as they say from Epic, this method does not work always or for all games so if after a couple of tries there is no luck, you will have to download the game in its entirety.
It should also be added that there are some Epic Games games that, although they have been obtained on the platform use an external program such as Ubisoft Connect, the Riot launcher or the new EA launcher that can be imported more easily using other programs that have more effective ways of detecting and importing games.
