The leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias ‘Hemedti’, has advanced that he will not start negotiations with the Sudanese Army to end the conflict in the African country until the military stops bombing the positions of its troops.
In statements to the BBC, ‘Hemedti’ has denounced that the Sudanese Army has been bombarding its paramilitary forces “relentlessly” since the last extension of the truce on Thursday night.
‘Hemedti’ thus responds to comments from his great rival, the leader of the Sudanese Army Abdelfatá al Burhan, who has opened up to the possibility of face-to-face talks in South Sudan.
“First, let the hostilities cease and then we’ll talk,” the paramilitary leader told the British channel, where he reiterated his conviction that Al Burhan is pursuing the reintegration of elements close to the ousted dictator Omar al Bashir.
“Unfortunately, Burhan is being directed by the leaders of the radical Islamic front,” Hemedti added, repeating another of his long complaints, such as the existence of Islamist elements among the ranks of the Army and the coup organization that he shared with Al Burhan. before the confrontation, the Sovereign Transition Council.
The paramilitary leader took the opportunity to deny accusations by the United Nations about alleged looting committed by paramilitary forces and accused the military of using militia uniforms to discredit the RSF.
“What we are doing is working to restore the supply of water and electricity in the areas that we have under our control. Unfortunately, all the technicians and engineers have disappeared. That is our main problem,” he asserted.
