Bodies found on land used by a Christian sect in northern Kenya rise to 110

28 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Kenyan authorities have raised to 110 the total number of bodies exhumed on land used by a Christian sect in a wooded area in Shakahola, in Kilifi county, although work continues in this area, in which a curfew, so it is not ruled out that the number continues to increase in the coming days.

During the last hours, another eleven bodies have been found -six adults and five minors- in various mass graves, according to the Police, which brings the number of bodies recovered to 109, as reported by the Kenyan newspaper ‘The Nation ‘. Work continues this Friday.

These deaths are added to the eight bodies found nearly two weeks ago during a raid against the activities of this sect, whose leader, Paul Mackenzie –arrested in mid-April– asked his followers to fast until death to “find Jesus Christ”.

In the framework of the investigations, the controversial evangelist televangelist Ezekiel Odero has been arrested, who will be charged in connection with the mass death of his followers, as confirmed by the authorities, who have also closed his “prayer center”.

The main leaders of the sect urge adherents to fast until death under the promise that they will meet Jesus in a new life. The President of Kenya, William Ruto, has come to accuse him of a “terrible criminal”, while the Kenyan Red Cross has started work to try to locate about 210 people -among them some 110 minors- who have been reported missing.
