The Indian authorities have reported the murder of one of the co-founders of the United Janata Dal (JDU) party, Kailash Mahto, after being shot several times while walking down the street near his home.
The politician was reportedly shot several times in the stomach and in the head by unidentified men who fled the scene on a motorcycle, according to the newspaper ‘India Today’, citing local authorities. He was taken to the hospital, but the health workers could only certify his death.
The incident occurred in Katihar, in the state of Bihar, and a police spokesman for the region has confirmed the event and has reported that the event is already being investigated, and more details will be shared when the autopsy is carried out.
According to the aforementioned newspaper, the murder could have been due to a dispute over land in the area, and the politician had asked the local Security Forces for protection several days ago, as he feared an attack.
