Bethesda Softworks has shown the launch trailer for Redfall, a game developed by Arkane Studios (Dishonored) that will go on sale on May 2 for Xbox Series and PC. It will also be available on Game Pass. The title will arrive with two temporary handicaps: the requirement of a permanent Internet connection (even to play alone) and a single quality mode at 30 FPS on Xbox Series. Arkane Studios is working on removing the permanent connection and has an update on the way that will allow it to go up to 60 FPS.

redfall is a shooter An open-world first-person shooter whose narrative campaign takes place in a Massachusetts island city that is besieged by a legion of vampires, who have managed to isolate the citizens from the outside world and block out the sun. Vampires, created as a result of failed scientific experiments by the Aevum company and endowed with psychic abilities, have subjugated the population. However, a group of survivors persists and have taken up arms with the aim of retaking the island.

Redfall’s team of heroes is made up of four survivors, each with their specific abilities that thanks to the cooperative mode are combined to create creative solutions against the vampire apocalypse. Characters can be modified with unique abilities and upgrades to suit one’s playstyle, with options ranging from straight-action to stealthy combat and anything in between. The arsenal, which includes classic options like the shotgun and rifles as well as exclusive weapons for vampire hunting like the stakethrower and the ultraviolet beam, is also upgradable.

The four protagonists of Redfall are:

  • Layla Ellison: A biomechanical engineering student who to alleviate some of her financial problems volunteered for a medical testing program at Aevum. She now has telekinetic powers and can create things with her mind.
  • Devinder “Dev” Crousley – An inventor, writer, and “cryptid hunter” who has gained some internet fame for his expeditions and discoveries. He has been trapped in Redfall, but thanks to his studies he has the knowledge he needs to make anti-vampire weapons.
  • Jacob Boyer – A former member of a special operations unit who now works at Bellwether, a private military services company that sent him to Redfall on mysterious orders. Once there he separated from his team and after a chance encounter he acquired a unique eye.
  • Remi de la Rosa: An engineer and cybernetics specialist who has developed Rascal, a robot designed to act as a stealth and attack decoy drone. When the disaster struck, she was in Redfall training the Coast Guard in remote-controlled search and rescue technology.

Redfall is presented as “an authentic Arkane experience” and this means that its world has been designed with many details to act as one more protagonist. The studio has tested new methods of storytelling and new ways of showing things to players, while offering an open environment where everyone can progress or explore at their own pace. “I think all the basic building blocks that make Arkane games so special are very present in Redfall,” says producer Aaron Carter.
