The Russian embassy in Spain suggests that the Sánchez government has active troops in Ukraine

The Russian embassy in Spain has suggested this Wednesday that the Government of Pedro Sánchez has sent Spanish troops to the war in Ukraine. He has done so indirectly through a video posted on Twitter in which several men appear dressed in military uniform and carrying a rifle and claim, in Spanish and with a marked Andalusian accent, “to be in the Ukrainian trenches”.

[Albares: “Con Feijóo el PP se ha deslizado de manera peligrosa hacia posiciones antimarroquíes”]

Never, ever, will any troops from a NATO country, and Spain is one of them, go to participate in the war in Ukraine. Never never. I want to say it very clearly, very clearly”, reads the publication, where such a promise is attributed to the Spanish Defense Minister, Margarita Robles.

These words seem to contradict the images released by the Russian diplomatic delegation, where four soldiers are shown speaking in Spanish. However, the video does not specify the location or the military unit to which they belong.

Since the start of the war, various Spanishas well as other citizens of different nationalities, have decided to sign up as volunteers -not as members of the Spanish Armed Forces or of- to participate in the conflict together with the troops of Volodimir Zelensky. These volunteers belong to what is known as the International Legion.

Recently, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jose Manuel Albares, stated in an interview for EL ESPAÑOL that “there are no Spanish troops on the ground in Ukraine, nor will there be Spanish troops in Ukraine”. Likewise, Albares clarified that “there were not going to be NATO troops either.”
