Iran’s Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the death sentence handed down against Jamshid Sharmahd, leader of the US-based promonarchical organization Tondar, on charges of “corruption on earth” for planning, as well as ordering the “execution of terrorist acts”.
The sentence, according to the Supreme Court, has been taken based on article 469 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, taking into account that in the appeal “there is no reason or proof” to “violate” the ruling taken previously, the agency of Mehr news.
Sharmahd, according to Iranian intelligence, is behind the explosion at a mosque in the city of Shiraz in 2008 that claimed the lives of 14 people and injured some 200, as well as other attacks in the Asian country.
Specifically, the authorities emphasize that Sharmahd, who was sentenced on February 21 and has dual Iranian-German nationality, planned 23 attacks, five of which were carried out with the help of Tondar, who maintained contacts with the services US-Israeli Intelligence.
The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, already described the sentence as “absolutely unacceptable” in February, since Tehran did not allow the detainee to obtain consular attention, for which reason the judicial process was “contrary to International Law,” according to the agency. APD.
Tondar, which is based in the US city of Los Angeles, is considered the armed wing of an organization called the Assembly of the Kingdom of Iran and seeks to overthrow the current regime to restore the monarchy under a new dynasty.
