Taiwan will carry out military maneuvers to increase its defense capacity in the face of tension with China

26 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Taiwanese authorities reported on Wednesday that they plan to carry out a series of military maneuvers to increase their defense capacity and deal with possible blockades on the island in the face of growing tension with China.

The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense has indicated in a statement that the exercises, known as ‘Han Kuang’, will take place between May 15 and 19 and July 24 and 28. Thus, it has indicated that it will proceed with the mobilization of forces and the implementation of training tasks to carry out mock attacks.

The exercises will focus, especially, on interception and containment operations with the aim of “guaranteeing the survival of the Armed Forces, which implies the use of civilian airports and the deployment of aircraft.

“Our maneuvers are based on the threat posed by the idea that the Chinese Army attacks Taiwan and the war games around the island,” said General Lin Wen Huang, according to information from the newspaper ‘South China Morning Post’. .

The naval part of these maneuvers will allow the implementation of scenarios in which the Taiwanese forces have to face possible enemy attacks by sea and defend their coasts.

China, for its part, continues to deny the idea of planning to use force to gain control of the island, which it considers to be one more province under its territory.

In this sense, the Chinese government has indicated that it also plans to carry out military exercises and test various weapons in areas of the South China Sea, as reported by the China Maritime Safety Administration.

The entity has detailed that the maneuvers will begin this Wednesday and that, for this reason, traffic in the area will be suspended, as the tension increases between the parties.
