US offers 4.5 million euros for information leading to the arrest of a North Korean cybercriminal

26 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The United States Government has offered rewards of up to five million dollars (about 4.5 million euros) for information leading to the arrest of three North Korean citizens, including Sim Hyon Sop, a major cybercriminal.

The State Department has indicated that for achieving the arrest of the other two men, rewards of up to $500,000 (450,000 euros) have been established, as specified in a statement by Matthew Miller, Department spokesman, who has identified them as Han Linlin and Qin Gouming.

“As part of a joint government action, these three individuals have been indicted by the Justice Department for committing various crimes and Sim has been sanctioned by the Treasury Department,” the text collects.

The three have been accused of evading the sanctions imposed against North Korea for the development of its ballistic and nuclear programs. In addition, the US authorities have explained that North Korea targets “companies around the world, from which it seeks to steal money to pay for Pyongyang’s weapons of mass destruction program.”

“The United States will continue to act to prevent North Korean activities that threaten international and regional stability and peace. We will continue to work with our allies to prevent this illegal financing,” the government said.
