Netflix Delays Deleting Shared Accounts

Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix, said during the earnings call that the model delay will also help implement some improvements that came out while they were testing the measure in other territories, such as making sure users can access their profile while traveling or away from their main homes.

“Based on those results, we felt it was best to take a little more time, incorporate those learnings, and make this transition as smooth as possible for members,” said Peters, who for the first time reported financially to the head from Netflix with Ted Sarandos.

In February, the company announced a series of measures to eliminate account sharing. These consist of defining a main location by means of a television. Afterwards, all the other accounts and gadgets that want to connect to the same account must do so through the same WiFi network that the main device is connected to.

Likewise, he explained that by establishing a main location it is possible to block the use of the account in some locations. So, to make sure your devices are associated with your primary location, you’ll need to be connected to your primary TV’s WiFi, open the app, and watch something at least once every 31 days.
