( Spanish) — The Secretariat of Navy of Mexico (Semar) reported that it seized 8,640 kilograms of methamphetamine camouflaged in tequila bottles, according to a statement published this Monday.

Semar pointed out that in recent days, and after inspecting a container with 960 boxes containing 11,520 bottles, naval personnel seized the drug detected thanks to a chemical identification system and the help of a couple of dogs trained to locate drugs.

In addition, samples of the drugs were taken and sent to the Mexican Navy Pharmacology and Toxicology Laboratory, which confirmed the existence of methamphetamine in the shipment.

Semar reported that so far this year, through the Mexican Navy, it has seized and destroyed a little more than 114 tons of methamphetamine.
