The EU sanctions deputies and members of the Revolutionary Guard for the persecution in Iran

BRUSSELS, 24 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The European Union has added eight people and one entity to its ‘blacklist’ for persecution in Iran on Monday, thus chaining seven months of continuous sanctions against the Iranian regime, since the death in police custody of the young Masha Amini.

Specifically, the Twenty-seven have agreed on measures against deputies and members of the Revolutionary Guard, as well as representatives of its Foundation, the body in charge of managing the investments of the military corps and responsible for channeling the money towards the brutal repression of the ayatollahs’ regime.

In addition, the community restrictions extend to Ariantel, an Iranian mobile phone service provider, for its role in Tehran’s surveillance of telecommunications to silence dissent and critical voices in Iran.

With this step, the sanctions now affect a total of 211 people and 35 entities. The people on the European ‘black list’ see their assets frozen and the prohibition on them to travel to the EU and on third parties placing funds or economic resources at their disposal.

In this way, the EU redoubles the pressure on Tehran in response to its spiral of violence against protesters, sentencing several to death and executing several since last September, when the death of the young Masha Amini, in police custody, unleashed a cascade of protests in the country.
