Therefore, YouTube wants this information to be verified, reliable and therefore easy for users to understand.

“Many users look for information about conditions before going to a medical consultation, which is why it is important to have tools that strengthen the mission of having reliable information and that does not put them at risk,” Graham emphasized.

Although the company has made efforts to ensure that the information disseminated does not put users at risk for some time, this new program is seeking to generate alliances that allow health institutions to be more empowered.

What is YouTube Health all about?

This initiative arrived in the United States in 2021 and through it the information from health sources is empowered, in addition, since October 2022 thousands of health professionals could certify their specialized content and through this have dissemination and also profit.

The contents are easy to identify because they come with a carousel of information that has been curated and verified for consultation. In addition, the company announced two updates: now it will be possible to have a carousel with the information about the source being consulted, as well as a health content shelf, where users can consult medical information, both physical and mental health.

“We are looking for professionals or therapists to also have a space for dissemination within the platform and that through these alliances, many medical institutes can publicize more research and information on a particular disease,” said Issac Ochoa.

YouTube Health works through three things: Principles, Partnerships and the Product.

Beginning

They work with subject matter experts. In this case, with the NAM (National Academy of Medicine), who are leaders and information authorities that help them find other reliable sources.

“Through this program, it was possible to define research organizations, medical institutes and entities such as hospitals or medical centers that are a reliable source of information and dissemination of health content”, says Graham about the experience they have had in the US.

This has paid off, because through NAM and the World Health Organization, more organizations have been summoned in the world.

Alliances

In the case of Mexico, the program comes with some allies, including the Faculty of Medicine, the Red Cross, Tec Salud, Médica Sur, the Carlos Slim Foundation, the ABC Medical Center and the National Academy of Medicine, with which the company It seeks that professionals can have access to this new format for presenting information.

Product

YouTube Health maintains the video platform’s responsibility framework that is governed by the four R’s: remove, reduce, highlight and reward.

But, for those who access the program, they will be asked to verify through a professional license that they are health specialists and after an evaluation by health sources and YouTube, the content may be promoted with more prominence on the platform. This means that if a user goes to search for information about breast cancer, information cards will be displayed with verified information and from health sources.

What about the media?

Academic institutions may seek to disseminate information to a greater extent, through the media. For this, there are some alliances so that there are contents from health organizations and they also participate as editorial curators on information.

Regarding monetization, YouTube pointed out that since it works with the creators, it is possible to make profits through the platform and generate extra income either for research or for a special program within health centers.
