The NGO denounces that one of its centers has been looted in the town of Nyala by a group of armed men

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has warned this Saturday that the situation in Sudan due to the fighting between the Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is “extremely serious” before warning that the country is headed for complete misrule and is in the process of “sanitary collapse”.

“The situation in Sudan is very serious. It is tremendous. There are shootings and bombardments in tremendously populated areas, where many civilians live,” said Jairo González, MSF’s executive officer for East Africa.

The head of MSF estimates that “many parts of the country are now without law”, with “thousands or millions of civilians in their homes unable to leave” due to the fighting and without being able to access hospitals.

MSF counts the wounded by the thousands and has denounced that, after a week of conflict, the three truces announced so far to facilitate care for the population “have not been respected.”

Hospitals and maternity hospitals are closing everywhere — Sudanese doctors estimate that seven out of ten hospitals in conflict zones have been rendered useless — and, according to González, “sanitary collapse reached the country on day one of the conflict.”

Finally, González has indicated that one of his medical centers in the town of Nyala, in the southwest of the country, has been the target of an attack by a group of between fifteen and twenty armed men. “They entered the MSF base in Nyala and took everything,” he lamented.
