() — The President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, will pay a visit to Taiwan from April 24 to 26, “where the ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation between both nations will be reaffirmed,” the Government of Guatemala tweeted this Friday.
This announcement of his trip comes after Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen visited Guatemala earlier this month as part of a diplomatic mission to Central America.
President Tsai visited Guatemala and Belize during her trip.
He drew the ire of China by transiting through New York and Los Angeles at each end of his visit to Central America.
While in Los Angeles, Speaker Tsai met with the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.
It was the first time that a sitting Taiwanese president met with a current speaker of the House of Representatives on US soil.
