This is how SASSLA works, the app that detects earthquakes in Mexico

What is SASSLA?

SASSLA is a Mexican application that alerts up to 120 seconds before an earthquake starts. Its first version was released in 2014 and is currently available for Android and iOS.

Functioning

This application works in conjunction with the Mexican Seismic Alert System (SASMEX) so when detecting telluric movement it sends notifications to your cell phone with all the information (possible epicenter and magnitude). It also shows the estimated time for the arrival of the earthquake at your location.

It is worth mentioning that this app has “Critical Alert” which is activated even if the cell phone is in do not disturb mode, it interrupts other applications and calls.

How to use SASSLA?

To obtain and configure this application you only have to comply with the following steps:

  1. Go to the app store on your smartphone and download the SASSLA app.
  2. Go to the cell phone menu and open the app.
  3. Accept the notifications. (with this you will be notified about earthquakes even if your cell phone is blocked)
  4. Grant access to your location. (this function is used to alert about earthquakes that may affect your location)

Does it have any cost?

The app is free; however, there is a paid version which offers other benefits such as a live map that will open automatically, a family monitor that can tell you when an earthquake may affect them (you must configure their location), notifications about earthquakes in other parts of the world
