The European Union has established this Tuesday a monitoring committee for the application of the standardization document of Serbia and Kosovo, as part of the agreement reached between Belgrade and Pristina to advance in the implementation of previous agreements and with which European diplomacy expects revitalize the process of normalization of relations.
The monitoring committee will be chaired by the EU Special Representative for the Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, and will be attended by both parties; on the side of Pristina the Kosovar ambassador in Brussels, Agron Bajrami, and from Belgrade his chief negotiator, Petar Petkovic.
The idea is that the forum meets regularly in Brussels, although the mandate will be formally adopted after the next high-level meeting in Brussels scheduled for May 2.
European diplomacy has placed its hopes in the document focused on concrete pending agreements between Serbia and Kosovo as a way out of the constant crisis in relations and achieve a more sustainable and predictable process.
Agreed after a marathon day in North Macedonia at the end of March, Serbia refuses to sign the annex and considers that it is not obliged to advance in its application, despite the fact that the EU insists that both parties are committed to the measures and it is in their interest as aspiring countries to enter the community club.
